School Vision and Mission Statement
Dawson Elementary School serves 413 second and third grade students in Coalinga.
In addition, our campus is home to one of the district’s Special Day
classes. About 25 percent of our students participate in the after-school academic
programs offered through a Community Learning Center grant.
Our primary goal is the mastery of academic skills by our students. To this
end we have in place a Language Arts program that emphasizes our focus on reading.
All classrooms have a reading tutor. Our second language learners are served
according to the district’s Master Plan for English Learners. Every year
we host the visit by a children’s book author. We participate in the
county language arts festival, and our library holds in excess of 22,000 titles
of children’s literature.
We recognize the importance of a positive, safe, and stimulating environment.
School spirit activities focus on attendance and student achievement. We have
a full-time counselor on our staff. Conflict resolution skills and character
education are taught to all students.
