About Us

Coalinga High School serves the residents of two small towns and several unincorporated ranching communities in the surrounding rural area. The larger of the two towns, Coalinga, is a community of approximately 12,000, located against foothills at the far western edge of the San Joaquin Valley. Historically and oil town, Coalinga now supports a more diverse economy and benefits from the services provided by a fully accredited hospital and by West Hills Community College.

Coalinga Foothills

Huron, located eighteen miles northeast of Coalinga amid vast agricultural holdings, supports a population of over 6,000, though the numbers can swell by thousands more during peak harvest seasons.

Coalinga High School is bound to its communities by a long tradition of mutual support. The families of many of our students, and those of a substantial number of staff members, can boast several generations of Coalinga High School graduates. Their participation in school planning, activities, and athletics helps determine the high school's course of development and presents to the school's stakeholders a model of parental and community involvement. The barriers of diverse languages and cultures, and the distance, in both miles and outlook, between Coalinga and Huron can be daunting, but the school is deeply committed to the inclusion of all stakeholders in determining priorities and in establishing our future directions. A particular effort is being made to reach parents and community members in Huron though information mailings in Spanish and English and the scheduling of Huron-based meetings and presentations.
